    Great value recorder

If I was more technologically minded I'd probably give this 5 stars. It offers more features then I think I'll ever be able to get my head round. I've had it a week and so far it records reliably, the picture is excellent and it does everything I've asked of it. There are too many on screen options and they're a bit fiddly to navigate. A minor niggle - you can't go backwards on a recorded radio programme! It also seems to take an age to get started when you switch on. Compared to my old Panasonic it does more (three tuners is a great feature) but it isn't as intuitive to use. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it in time. And I must say I'd never have known this wasn't a brand new unit. Nice one!

  • Most critical review

Good Freeview Play let down by unresponsive remote and a few software issues

The recorder works okay overall, except for the remote control which is unresponsive on the OK and arrow buttons and so leads to you having to keep pressing buttons until it reacts. Other buttons are not affected but it does mean that you can accidentally cancel or delete recordings by pressing the OK key too many times. I have downloaded the Humax Remote app for my tablet and this works perfectly all the time. Also, for some reason, mine doesn't show any on demand players such as All 4 and iPlayer but you can access them by searching for programs or from the guide. Being able to use the multi-room feature, a bit like Sky-Q, via the additional H3 box is good, although whether it works is a bit hit and miss. I would be annoyed if I had paid full price but at around £100 for the 500gb model, it was probably worth it. I needs a better remote and a software update to resolve the missing on-demand players issue.

  • Good overall box but has annoyances

Box is easy to set up. The EPG is ok but could be improved. There are 2 usb sockets but using a stick or a drive came with problems. I tried a 32gb stick and a 500gb Seagate drive without much success. If anything can be copied to them it takes a long time ... a 2 hour film took almost an hour. Apart from that it seems like a good reliable box.

  • OK but!!

The product is easy to use and set up but unfortunately, it has a limited life span with various reasons for failure, such as will not power up, will not locate channels. I continue to use it because it has such good recording features.

  • Humax FVP-4000T 500GB Freeview Set Top Recorder.

We have found this recorder easy to install and easy to use. Having owned a previous model, this latest version is much improved. One thing that I found frustrating is the OK button on the remote control, sometimes needs more than one press to function. Overall, very pleased with this purchase.

  • Good value high performance

Graded product but with 1 yr manufacturer warranty excellent value. No issues with remote as some reviews state. Picture and features very good. Freeview Play interface a little different to YouView. Excellent search facility though, once used to it fairly simple but requires multiple actions to navigate features compared with YouView. All in all very satisfied and of course there are 3 tuners allowing multiple simultaneous recordings if required

  • Not as good as old models

This is the second box bought one for home second for our touring caravan . Old model is fine and expected the same or slight improvements with new model, there are a few but like others who have left reviews I have found the hand remote very unresponsive, by having to press buttons several times very firmly to get any response . On next visit to Caravan later this month I will take old remote to see if it will improve this annoying problem. Other than that I would still buy again but look for a used older model

  • Great value for money freeview.

The fvp 4000t is a great piece of kit. It sets itself up when you plug it in. The WiFi Internet connection is easy to use. With Internet you get all of the freeview channels with catchup from an easily usable guide. You also get YouTube and Netflix. The box also has a USB socket to connect memory sticks and play music, videos or photos. It also supports dlna, so by downloading a dlna server like plex on your computer, you can watch media from your computer on the TV as well.

  • Boxing Clever

Works well but remote is sticky and every press on remote has to be repeated in order to get reaction from box. Wife struggles to get reaction when using remote, box itself is fine and works well to date, only had it working for 4 days to date.

  • Brand names or products?

I bought this thinking Humax was the "b's knees" of PVRs. and I think paid more for the name maybe. Although technically I suppose it might be but I was disappointed - partly down to the retailer. The remote control was the biggest let down needing sharp, heavy jabs on the buttons, response was not good and some buttons needed repeated stabbing to get any result at all. I also found the reading of information (epg, listings etc) on the screen to be difficult - having to lean forward to make out the script. The scrolling of screens (again epg and listings) was not very good as it likes to move by page rather than by item or line. So you can end up moving back and forth if looking at items on the page (fwd/back : up/down) boundary. I have returned the item and been fully refunded for which I am grateful, and I have now bought another make (considerably cheaper) and am fully satisfied. I guess this is another example that not all vacuum cleaners are "hoovers" after all? Mike
