Heats up fast.
I really like this hot plate. I brought it for a friend who is without proper cooking facilities at the moment. I went for the 1.5kw because the plate is bigger and pans would not over hang or block the control. It heats up very fast, faster than I thought it would. It doesn't glow while on. Just one word of caution.
