Very good product for the price

It's very simple to use with very few adjustments--which is good and bad. It handles well lit footage quite well with good color--although it has more of an overall blue tone especially in the shadows, etc than I would like. It does tend to look quite a bit grainy too. You can improve your results a lot with a good editing program to fix colors, stabilize and soften the grain a bit. It gets way better results than filming off a screen like I have in the past.

    Compact unit with good results

A bit fiddly setting it up to scan films. Quick to scan through reels. Needs baby sitting as scanner will not automatically stop when film jams. Power supply is U.S. parallel pin. Need to procure an adapter to fit Australian sockets.

  • excellent way to preserve your home movies

I couldn't be happier with the results. It's an awesome product for the money. Just thread the film an turn it on. Transfer the files to your computer and voila...instant home movies without the fuss of projectors and screens. I am glad I paid the extra money for this model as it takes the larger reel and the frame speed does not require adjustment to view.

  • Overall a very good product

Works very well on 8mm film. I have so far scanned about 8 films made in the 60s and 70s. The grain was quite evident but I reduced the sharpness to low, later adding sharpness where required using Adobe Premier Elements. I am also using Windows HD Movie Maker to reduce the fps to 0.75 which equates just a touch slower than the 16fps shot by the camera. This seems to work well. I have had only one movie jam and not even on a splice. I find threading a little difficult with my big fingers but not a great problem.

  • Move up to Pro

Great followup to the original MovieMaker the Pro model offers much needed improvements. Specifically, The MovieMaker Pro can handle larger 9 inch/400' reels. That was a big negative over the earlier model. Most of my films were long ago put unto 400' reels and they required cutting and splicing onto smaller 200 ' reels to use. Now that is a a thing of the past. The Pro also has a more forgiving drive less prone to jamming. Also Improved is the output resolution and the software now scans at the correct frame rate. The older model scanned at a lower rate that caused the output films to run at an unrealistic higher speed. Bottom line is to pay the difference for the MovieMaker Pro if you have larger film reels to scan. It's well worth it.

  • Works well with manual adjustments but would like a auto framing feature to correct jitter from bad camera.

Best part: No computer and no drivers necessary.

  • Too Much Blue

So far I have run about 100 reels through the machine, mostly 7" reels. Overall the results are very good. It does produce a lot of blue, even in some of the blacks. They need to put some filtration or change the light source for more accurate colors.

  • Excellent 8mm/Super 8 Converter

This machine has outperformed all of my expectations. It is easy to use (take your time threading through the 3 tabs & make sure film lays flat). Don’t worry about negative reviews (for example slow rewind speed... well my films are 55+ yrs old; 6 min vs 2 min is ok by me).

  • Not worth the cost or effort.

Unless you have tiny fingers, this is hard to load. Jambs at every splice 1 FPS takes 30 minutes for 50ft of film Broke after 30 runs! I have heard this from others too. I am a professional film operator and archivist. You will NOT be happy with the usage or results. Resultant image is noisy an over compressed MP4 Resultant movie speed is too fast, 20fps. Should be 16 (for reg8) and 18 (for S8) Prepare to ask for a refund.

  • Woks well but had learning curve due to lack of full instructions

Took some time to learn how to use effectively. Instruction booklet kind of vague and not very helpful. Have converted over 100 hours of 8mm/Super 8mm film with little issues. Well worth the price.
