Quality doesn't come cheap, but this is great value.

I have always preferred TomTom over other brands but normally managed with a cheaper model for personal use. I decided to go for the top of the range as i now drive all sizes of truck and the lifetime maps and traffic updates give the best long term value for money. Still getting used to the many features but very happy so far.

Tom Tom Go Professional 6250 Sat Nav

I bought this to replace my ageing Tom Tom 1005 Europe which has always given me good service but thought I would upgrade to a larger screen, which I thought would be easier to read plus as I use my sat nav in my motorhome and usually towing, I thought it would be handy to be able to feed in my height, length and weights of my vehicle. I am still trying to get to grips with this new sat nav but I am not finding it so easy. Compared with my 1005 Europe set up I find it more difficult to use, the screen detail is not so easy to read although larger, the lane selection is not as good or as clear and the first time out it routed me across country down some quite narrow lanes. Not a good start considering I could be driving a coach or LGV. Having spent more than I should have on this device I will persevere with it. On the plus side, Bluetooth updates are good, and the location of fuel and service areas.

  • TomTom Go Professional 6250 Truck – Lifetime Maps, Traffic, Cameras

I already have a TomTom Camper, incidentally the support was dropped and reverted back to current standard, I did feel this was unfair as a consumer. I decided to look at the TomTom 6250 and researched. I did need a GPS to accommodate Trucks, Buses, Vans and Cars. I needed a reliable name rather than to put trust in a cheap import. One had to assume Cars were included, as this was not very clearly indicated in the write-ups; allowing hesitation on purchasing this unit. Thankfully, after purchase, cars were found to be included. So why buy a Truck, Bus, Van, Car GPS? As a professional driver, I required a GPS to consider size of vehicles, the types of load. This model includes HAZMAT for those with ADR licences, a useful backup. Consideration to the types of roads for heavy goods, preventing getting stuck on small country lanes to help prevent heavy fines, expenses for vehicle damage and recovery. The TomTom 6250 plans routes, appropriate to height, length, width, weight, axle loads and speeds. I chose the 6250 over the 6200 version as it offered lifetime Maps, Traffic and cameras. The 6200 requires a subscription depending on promotion and could prove expensive long-term. The 6250 has an adequate 6” screen with 2D/3D viewing, maps, (48 countries) of Western Europe, voiced street name if required, advanced traffic warnings to save delays, speed camera warnings. The 6250 can be paired using Bluetooth, receive email, text, phone calls, volume upgraded, adjustable and hands free. Seri, Google Now, WiFi compatible, allowing for automatic download during travel or via PC/Mobile on stops using ‘mydrive app’. Built in Sim also identifies POI such as Fuel, Parking and other interest points, appropriate to the type of vehicle. What is inside the box? Basic manual, window mount, mag disc, USB lead, 12/24v cigarette socket adapter and not forgetting the TomTom 6250 Unit. I am pleased, so far, with the TomTom6250 Unit.

  • Good but could be better

Great screen size and very clear instructions but could do with more software development. Although regularly updated it still has a low percentage of 20mph speed limits correct. Still routing through unsuitable country lanes even when vehicle size and weight is set. It takes a while to work out the best way to give voice commands but is very handy once you get it nailed. Destination arrival time is as accurate as it gets. Planning a route on my laptop and sending it to the Sat Nav is very handy however if you put in a multi drop route once on the Sat Nav it gives you the total time to drive the route and not a time to the next stop. All said and done I would definitely buy again.

  • Easy to set up, nice sized screen and easy to use.

SO far the TomTom has be excellent. I got a better deal from an eBay seller than the TomTom discounted item and seems as robust as my older TomTom. As has been mentioned by others I think that the background colours are very wishy washy and a retrograde step down from my other, older, TomTom. The sat nav is very easy to operate and was easy to set up by plugging the unit into a PSU of the correct voltage and then I left it to download and update itself. My only concern is that it is reliant on the 2G network staying switched on but then the unit can be updated via a PC so it's not really a big issue except up to date traffic information may suffer.

  • Can get it wrong but is very good.

I use this for HGV trunking and multidrop. It made a strange error of trying to guide me to an unfinished motorway junction whilst not taking the access roads to the same place (it called these 'unnamed road') So I now use it with phone maps and always look at it's planned route to see if it is correct. Using it by typing in the postcode and setting off is not without a risk of mistakes. The on screen guidance is superb and it really makes sure you don't miss a turning or exit. I'm happy with it and think it's worth it's price to any pro driver.

  • GPS Satnav made simple

Upgraded to this from my old TomTom Truck XL. Very quick and easy to set up and use. It would’ve been better if I could have transferred all my favourite destinations in one go from my old sat nav, rather than having to search and enter each one individually. On second day of use, unit crashed, switched itself off during a journey and wouldn’t switch back on. Had to resort to iPhone Google Maps for rest of the day. When I got home I searched on line for info on this problem and discovered that I needed to hold power button down for 15 seconds. When I did this, the unit came back to life and has not crashed again in the last week or so since it happened.

  • As good as it gets

I bought this as an upgrade to my Pro 5250 Truck and its as good plus some. I upgraded for the hands free phone calling and text facility. The newer 6" screen also gives you split screen view for junctions which is good. The fact that you can download all your saved places through your phone and plan your route when your away from the device is good, and saves time. The sound is more 'tinny' than my old unit but I'll get used to it. Expensive but worth it I feel.

  • Top Money But Excellent

Needed a decent truck sat nav and this was the latest model out. The price is on the higher end but after having a cheaper one it just makes it worth every penny. It’s a good size, the voice is clear and loud even know I turn the sound off, the directions and screen is great too. The best thing I like is that it has a live traffic report and you can see how far away it is as well as speed cameras which is a great thing especially if you have a heavy right foot. Recomendable to anyone looking for a top quality sat nav.
