Sounds great wi th good source.
I can compare it with AKG K612 Pro that I also also have. Bass here is ~15% better, heights are ~5% better, ergonomics is ~20% better, scene is ~10% better. I listen both headphones with ASUS Xonar STX 2, without EQ. Sound of DT 990 Pro is more fun. Volume is the same as AKG with the same sound card and the same setting 64-300 Ohm. In the Internet there are a lot of feedbacks that heights are too strong here. Without EQ, in the HI-FI mode it is not correct, all the frequencies are balanced. Usually I listen metal, so for metal they are simply great, very strong and a lot of details. With my sound card they are ideal pair.

The headphones are really nice but must ...
The headphones are really nice but must have been used around smokers because they smelled awful. The pro series is nice because you can replace parts, so we purchased some new pads when we couldn’t wash out the smell.

Amazing so far
I’ve only had them for about 2 weeks but so far they have blown my Sennheiser hd598s and my Phillips shp9500s out of the water, the sound quality is noticeably different, I’m running them though a behringer umc-22 audio interface, they are extremely comfortable and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase
