Highly recommended, even if you haven't read the books
great way to see how others feel about and interpret the Gilbraith books. Just finished a mammoth 4 novel-a-thon and watching these put a different perspective on the stories. The acting is great, the images of Strike's London and office/home building are fresh and very in keeping. The storylines are very easy to follow, no where near as convoluted as Gilbraith's plots, but enjoyable on tv all the same, maybe because of that reason. Excellent firms based on the Jo Rowling crime thrillers, but spoilt by poor sound quality.
Having read all three of the books which were filmed in this series, I looked forward to seeing how well their complex plots were depicted in the films. Inevitably much of the material in these books had to be omitted by Jo Rowling in converting the books into TV firms, but I think she succeeded reasonably well. Having written the books, she was perhaps too close to their contents to recognise what needed to be shown for a TV audience. So some important matter was not included. Having said that, the actors were excellent and the portayals realistic. However, my main criticism of these DVDs is the poor level of the sound for the firms. It was not that it was indistinct, but that the level of sound could not be raised (even with the TV and DVD player volume levels increased to a maximum) and thus conversations were barely audible.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

SUPERB stories!
I can't put these stories down when I start one but I'm now on book four and don't want to pick it up because I don't want to finish it. The stories are complex but absolutely riveting!
