Top rated, easy setup, lot of features, excellent value
This is by far the easiest modem/router I have installed/setup in my 20+ years working with cable modems, ISDN, many ADSL(+) and 3G/4 capable modem routers. It is also my first ASUS branded product and while this AC modem has been on the market for some time it is still current while ASUS still adds updates and new features. It also can be flashed with 3rd party FW like Tomato, Merlin ... I primarily bought it due to the fact that it supports a vast range of 3G/4G USB modems (in my instance Optus 4G+) and the service speed in specific upload speed (have achieved 30Mbps+ upload and hovering around 50 Mbps download) is compared to the fastest NBN link.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Good Router with good features
Its a router.... you have to submit all your data usage to a 3rd party (MicroTrend) if you want to use some the features. Such as QOS, Parent Control, Any kind of Analytics etc... Unable to use the VPN Client with Netflix (Netflix issue) and you cant add routes to bypass within the router. Connection is fast enough, WIFI and Cable both good. Control over kids WiFi usage
We desperately needed some sort of parental control over our home WiFi, getting myself to rage mode everyday was not good for anyone, I thought I might kill 2 birds 1 stone and upgrade our WiFi speeds also so ac68u.. Our WiFi speeds have increased on average from 10mbps to 55mbps on 5 or 6 devices which is great, I no longer need the range extender we were using in the house. Best of all the parental control allows me to time schedule every device in the house and also allows me to temporarily allow or block any device from the Asus app on my phone. 2 days and already our stress levels are down, not having to fight with kids every step of the day!!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

ASUS RT-AC68U Aimesh extender
Bought another ASUS router to get better coverage across the far side of the house. Bought a 2nd hand one to save $$$. Only trick was to upgrade the BIOS to the latest version in order for the Aimesh options to appear and then added it to the network and setup on the other side of the house. Great quality and easy to use admin interface to set it up. The ASUS routers also don’t seem to be so affected by being on for a long time, so have needed to periodically restart like other router brands. Great value for money. I don't require a modem for my internet so a stand alone router was an easy option to connect devices wirelessly and manage multiple wired connections at the same time. This modem has been great so far. I like that I can manage the router from my mobile phone and see what devices are connected, check status of router/network, trouble shoot connection problems, monitor usage, setup guest wifi networks, and so much more from the tip of my finger. Easy set up and hasn't skipped a beat. Great value compared to other stand alone routers I looked at in store from other brands that aren't very "reliable" that were much more pricey. Great for CCTV
I bought this for my CCTV HD cameras x4 to replace a D-Link DSL-2877AL that was struggling with range. I solved this problem with a powerline extender but I wanted to try a better router without an extender. I had read reviews that the ASUS RT-AC68U router had great range and it does. It is powered on 24/7,and cameras never drop out - one of my cameras is 20m away. It uses approx 10W and heat is not a problem (contrary to some reviews I have read) - it is cool to mildly warm. Perfect for Express VPN
In Australia we have pretty average internet speed so there's no chance I can get over 1000 Mbps for the forseable future for a reasonable price. But this router for the price does a great job for a standard home. As it's a little bit old, it doesn't support wifi 6, but the reason I bought this specific model is for it's VPN function. The latency you get when you are gaming on consoles is rediculous but this router is supported by Express VPN so that means you can install custom firmware directly on the router that will significantly cut the latency in your gaming by connecting to the servers much faster. If you don't want to use the VPN function this router is also fine in a bridge mode where you can just extend your wifi coverage if you own other asus routers. Awesome nbn router, replaced my original router given to me by first nbn service provider which kept dropping put and poor signals in certain areas of the house. The Asus provides a very good range and steady stream no drop outs, very easy to set up. Dual band is great having my smart TVs on one and phones on the other.
