  • Heavy weight, quality like this doesn't come cheap

I saw a good review for this on YouTube, so I went ahead and ordered and as 'estimated' it arrived 2 days later. I assembled it today and rather than make a trolley base for it as shown on the video, I've mounted it on my work bench opposite the vice, Its a big bench but the drill still looks quite imposing and I think it'll take a while to get used to the operating height of the drill table from the floor compared with a small hobby drill. I finished up drilling some test half inch holes in steel angle, their's oodles of low speed torque, no chuck key to bother with and the drill held firm firm in the chuck, cutting through effortlessly. A few comments: I had one slight reservation, another reviewer had described it has having 'an awkward depth stop', but actually if you spin the nuts down with your left hand as you turn the drill handle with your right, its not a problem. Also theirs just enough space to get a spanner in to tighten up Take care, don't give yourself a hernia, its a heavy bugger, I have a workshop crane and used that to raise it into place. When I tried to switch on for the first time, nothing, I was just about to get out the multimeter when I realised the big red panic button was pressed in - turn clockwise to release!

  • Axminster AT325PD bench drill - first impressions

Quick delivery, and fairly easy to assemble - but there is a good clip on youtube, which will make it easier. The drill head is VERY heavy - I used a tractor loader to lift it into place, and it may need two people - or you can do it the way the guy does on youtube and save your back.. Quality is good, easy to use, the only issue I had was that I couldnt get it to wok at all, so I had to ring customer support - the emergency stop button was locked in the safe position. Depressing it and then rotating a quarter turn to the right does the trick! It will need a sturdy base - I used a steel framed bench bolted into a concrete pad, which may be overkill, but you wouldnt want it to topple.

  • Honest Product

Seems fine although I haven’t used it much yet. It’s quiet with minimal run out. Not entirely sure about the durability of the rack mechanism that moves the table up and down, but 30 minutes with a file and plenty of grease has improved it no end!
