Terrific mobile robotic platform with speech, vision, multiple sensors and functionality. Great for STEM education!
The Anki Cozmo robot is a terrific entertainment robot for kids, but also is an excellent learning platform for those wanting to learn programming and try their skills on an actual physical piece of hardware (the robot itself). It is a robust mobile platform platform with multiple sensors, an accelerometer, has sound, speech synthesis, vision capability, a mic, etc. Every element of its functionality can be controlled through code you can create through the built-in Codelab program, and more advanced state programming models can be tested by downloading extra programming tools such as Calypso. It does not require a subscription (contrary to Vector), and its programming capabilities are much easier to implement than in the Vector robot. It does require an iPad, iPhone or Android device to activate and program. The Cozmo Service Development Kit (SDK) is written in the Python computer language, so if you really want to push the envelope, you can use this too and develop advanced programs. Anki has gone bankrupt, but they sold their assets to DigitalDreamLabs, who are currently producing more Cozmos with expanded capabilities (as of Nov 2020 are taking orders for production in May 2021). For a school, college or university teaching a course in STEM education and/or robotics (and with locked down networks), the Cozmos is ideal: Vector is not - because Vector requires cloud activation and network internet connectivity and a subscription key from DigitalDreamLabs. Additionally, the Cozmos has 3 cubes which can be used to run experiments in computer vision: the Vector robot has only one and in comparison, currently has limited functionality.
