Michael Dunlop is quite simply the greatest road racer on the planet. Brother of the terrific rider William, son of the late Robert and nephew of the late great Joey Dunlop; racing is in his blood. Now for the first time he has agreed to talk in depth about his family story, how he got involved in 'the family business' and how he manages to keep getting back on his bike despite all he knows of the deadly risks he encounters every time he crosses the start line. The death of his uncle during a competition in Estonia in 2000 was followed just eight years later by the death of his father at the North West 200. But despite these tragic losses Michael was undeterred and in 2008, months after his father's death, he went on to compete in the Senior TT, where he recorded the fastest lap and finished 10th overall. The next year Michael returned and won the event, joining both his father and uncle in the record books. An incredibly rare glimpse under the visor and into the brain of road racing's most single minded rider. Given added poignance following William's tragic recent passing, Michael's words about the strength of their bond and how they drove one other on following their Father's death are profoundly moving. Some honest opinions about his thoughts on some of the riders he shares a paddock with add extra spice, but this book is all about how Michael became the man he is today - and you'll have a totally different respect for him if you take the time to read his story. I was a huge fan of Michael the road racer already, but feel I understand a bit more about who he is and what makes him tick on a personal level now. Surprising Insight
Michael Dunlop (Mickey D) is not just the worlds leading road racer. He is a surprisingly insightful thoughtful individual with real appreciation of people esp his family and their achievements and not just on the race track. Though undoubtedly a very opinionated and forceful man and probably a difficult man to be a friend of, there is astonishing strength of character and genuine intelligence happily unburdened by 'plastic speak.'
