About this product

Product Information

The Sunday Times top ten bestseller... 'Nobody knew what was going on behind those doors. We were human toys. Just a piece of meat for someone to play with.' Barbara O'Hare was just 12 when she was admitted to the psychiatric hospital, Aston Hall, in 1971. From a troubled home, she'd hoped she would find sanctuary there. But within hours, Barbara was tied down, drugged with sodium amytal - a truth-telling drug - and then abused by its head physician, Dr Kenneth Milner. The terrifying drug experimentation and relentless abuse that lasted throughout her stay damaged her for life. But somehow, Barbara clung on to her inner strength and eventually found herself leading a campaign to demand answers for potentially hundreds of victims. A shocking account of how vulnerable children were preyed upon by the doctor entrusted with their care, and why it must never happen again.

  • The hospital how I survived the secret child experience at Aston hall

This story was very touching and terrible what that little girl and others went through I was amazed how someone would do that to children. The book was very good I didn’t won’t to put it down. I would recommend this book to all my friends and family. My son and daughter-in-law would like to have it after me . I thought she is amazing person for all that she as been through. My thought go out to her and I hope Barbara gets the justice that she and lots of other deserve. I would love to send my blessings to her .. xx

  • Very well written

Really good read. I thought what I went through with sexual abuse in a children's home on the North East coast at the same time this little girl was going through this was bad. It is a true life story about children in care in the 60s 70s. It will keep you gripped so you won't want to put it down

  • Looks interesting

Looks interesting but haven't started reading it yet. seen documentary on TV but I'm sure the book goes into more depth and detail from a former patient who was admitted there as a child in the 1970s.
