Product Information

Dana Andrews is the captain of a flight crew in the first World War II aerial attack on the Japanese mainland. Their plane has been crippled in the raid and the eight man bail out over China. Now they have been captured brought to Japan and charged with murder flasely accused of bombing schools and hospitals. Subjected to a brutal trial in violation of international law the final verdict is never in doubt they will be found guilty and executed unless they reveal the secret location the bombing attack was launched from. When the threat of death proves useless one by one the US airmen are taken and tortured leaving them physically and mentally shattered.

The Purple Heart – Good Of Its Day
With high-quality 20Th Century Fox production values and a strong cast, this based-on-fact propaganda tale weaves its way to a predictable close. Arthur Miller’s superb photographic design, combined with Lewis Milestone's experienced direction are the strong points in an otherwise obvious flag-waver - filled with stereotypical evil Japanese, complete with silly toothy grins. Good looking, with an overall important story given standard scripting treatment of the era. The Fox Studio DVD offers excellent quality
