Product Information

John Neville (The Adventures of Baron Munchausen) and Susan Hampshire, who won an Emmy award for her performance, star in this wonderful dramatisation of the lives of John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough and his wife Sarah. A military genius, John met Sarah Jennings at the court of King Charles II. He rejected his familys desire to marry for money in favour of the young Sarah. Her honesty, wit and devilish temper coupled with her political ability made her a good match for the ambitious and talented John who soon became renowned as a shrewd diplomat and great strategist. When John proved to the Queen that he was indeed a fine commander, following a string of victories, she made him Duke of Marlborough. Sadly Sarah was treated with cold disdain by Her Majesty. The Queens health and vulnerability led her to distrust John which brought major changes to the Churchills lives.

    Well worth a watch

    I remember it from its first run in Australian TV (ABC naturally) and am not disappointed in re-watching it.....
