Tim Burton with a twist
I enjoyed this film very much indeed, although I found it more obviously grim and scary than other Tim Burton films, which are subtler on various levels and therefore more suitable for different age groups. Being a fantasy film, a lot of explanation was required for viewers who had not read the book(s) and was a task well-mastered by the director, but it appeared to slow down the pace. A certain woodenness was inevitable when few characters had more than bit part appearances. A lot of threads remained unexplained at the end and Miss Peregrine's exit followed by subsequent non- appearance was confusing. The ending was so open, it was most unsatisfactory at several levels. Like a scene or two too many had been cut, spoiling the flow of the tale. It has inspired me to read the trilogy, which I suspect will be far more fulfilling.

Good fun.
Loved the film! Was bought to have a film show for the grandchildren but shocked to see it suitable for 12 and over. They are aged between 6 and 11 so thought we'd better preview it. Good job we did as they would probably have had nightmares! They will enjoy it when they're a bit older.
