The real Sherlock Holmes
Basil Rathbone is the quintessential Sherlock Holmes. He bears a striking resemblance to Sherlock Holmes as he was pictured in the original illustrations of the stories draw by Sidney Paget and he captures the very essence of the character as described by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The modern attempts to portray Sherlock Holmes miss the mark very badly and take liberties that render the character unrecognizable. Particularly unforgivable is the casting of Holmes's biographer, Doctor Watson, as a Chinese woman played by Lucy Lui in the T.V program "Elementary". I love Lucy Lui but not as Doctor Watson. Stay wit the fourteen Basil Rathbone movies if you want the best portrayal of Sherlock Holmes. That is truly "elementary".
