    Freesat receiver

Replaced a older model surprised how much smaller it is hand set a bit sensitive at first easy to press the wrong button when setting up ok once you get used to it fortunately hand set from my old receiver work's with it as well apart from a description of the buttons on the handset the instruction manual very poor not a lot of information but having owned a previous model I knew how to use all the features a complete novice might struggle a bit receives a lot of channels which is great but can sometimes be a bit of a nuisance because if you say set something up to record on BBC the unit picks up a lot of regional BBC channels so you can end up recording the same program on more than one BBC channel so end up with two or three recordings of the same program and as yet not worked out if this feature can be stopped plus not a lot of information on the web all in all quite pleased with the unit picture quality better than the older model so looks good on my 4k TV and being able to record 4 channels has allowed me to do away with another hard drive recorder I had connected up having had both Sky and Virgin TV in the past as long as you have a satalight dish Freesat in a better set up all round as it's subscription free would highly recommend this product Steve Yorkshire

Good but with one annoying feature

Quite good, but some small failings compared to SkyQ. But these are off-set by the free service once the box is paid for, compared to Sky's monthly subscription. Menu system is a bit clunky and sometimes it takes two presses to get a menu item up. Most annoying thing is the graphic design of menu items. A selected menu item is white text on a very bright, light blue - a huge design gaff. making the text almost impossible to read! If I don't know what the selected item is or am unsure, I have to get out of my chair and walk over to the TV to get close enough to decipher the white text against the pale background. This is VERY annoying and could so simply have been avoided. Otherwise I am happy with FreeSat and this box.

  • It records tv and has auto Netflix too

Hi I bought this because EE tv was stopping I was hoping it would work the same but alas it doesn’t. It records many programs fine but I’m missing the watch something earlier feature as I often forget what time something is on and watch the afternoon programs at teatime. It works well.

  • CLEVER LITTLE BOX

It is more user-friendly than my previous box, simpler to use the handset to navigate the various functions. My only comment would be that the handset is a wee bit small so buttons are set close together and you can easily hit a button close to the one you want to use. The instruction leaflet is well presented, clear and easy to follow - very unusual these days! I am having a teething problem with recordings (it asks for a password when I try to view one recording but I don't have a password) but I've only had it a short while and will get my tecky person to have a look - it's probably something I am doing wrong! The volume is far more responsive and clearly defined than previous, and the sound quality (even though I'm using the same TV) seems better. All in all, I am happy with the box, thank you

  • Sat tv without sky high bills

Bought this box because where I live I get really bad digital aerial signal , because of trees etc. Didn't want to pay for Sky with bills out of my reach when you take into consideration the add on feature that you would want ie sport etc. So freesat is the answer for me.

  • It’s good but the program guide is a long way short of SKY

It was very easy to set up, only took about 10 minutes to connect the cables from my old SKY HD box. The channels tuned in very quickly, about 20 seconds I think. It’s reasonably responsive and the remote is well laid out. The operation of the program guide and setting and removing recordings is way behind SKY but it’s free so I guess I’ll get used to it. The program guide is almost colourless, it looks very dull and boring and it lacks the ability to rearrange how the channels are listed. There are dozens of channels that I will never watch and I’d like to be able to move them down the screen and list my favourites first to save me scrolling through pages of unwanted channels, It’s free and over time I’ll forget about SKY and only remember that it cost less than 3 months of my previous subscription charge 😁

  • Ok but too many teething problems

Got this as we ditched Sky a while ago, and lately the terrestrial signal hasn't been up to much, so as the dish was there we thought we'd use it. It was easy enough to set up, although as we don't use wireless we connected an Ethernet cable, but for some reason the box didn't recognise that it was connected, then when it did it lost the connection with annoying regularity. Eventually, after several reboots, it worked, but then we had the problem of it defaulting to BBC1 (channel 101) every time it was switched off and back on again. After a call to Freesat, it was found that this is in fact a known issue, and a bug-fix is in the pipeline to correct it, so hopefully that will be fine. I would like to see a single button on the remote for access to the recordings list, though. Having to go to the home menu and then select it from a list is a bit of a pain. All in all a good unit, but a few teething problems.

  • Quality viewing with no big bills!

Simple to fit, and use. Brilliant features, ability to record not only single programs but the full series, program, and leave the unit to do the rest! The picture quality is second to none, ease of the program selection is amongst the best, and best of all, no mounting bills to worry about! Definitely recommended to anyone looking for a great set-up!

  • Good solid satellite box

I have been without a normal satellite box since cancelling sky. I did have a humax Freesat box years back but I wanted the most up to date one on the market. This box seemed to tick all the right boxes. It was very easy to set up with no problems. The user interface is obviously heavily influenced by sky q which is no bad thing as it’s very intuitive. Overall as a set top box this performs very well indeed. My only criticism is that the program highlights page is way to sparse and could do with much more on it, sky is way way better in this respect

  • Best Option for free to view TV

Picture quality is great, bought this because Freeview only has limited HD channels now, Freesat has all main channels in HD. This box can record 2 at the same time, but only if you have 2 spare LNBs on your satellite dish. Box was initially very difficult to get to handshake with TV, but weirdly this wasn't a problem after 2 or 3 days and now it connects without issue. No idea why this would be. TV is a Samsung, and its software is appalling, so I wouldn't be surprised if TV was the issue and not the box. Although guide does allow for favourites, this has be selected every time you use the guide which is poor. Also there doesn't appear to be a way to re-order your favourites, again basic stuff. Other than that everything works well. No missed recordings so far, which as a big big problem with my Humax Freeview box
