LEATHERMAN SURGE, A STURDY DEPENABLE TOOL FOR DAILY CARRY
I own Leatherman Charge TTI's, Waves, Super Tools,Rebars, and Surges. They are all fine tools for every day use, but my favorite one is the Surge followed by the Charge TTI and the Super Tool 300.
Many people think the Surge is too heavy for every day carry, but I carry mine every day vertically next to my wallet in my back pocket and am not bothered by the weight at all. I have the 42 bit kit, the file blade, 2 hacksaw blades, an extra wood saw blade, and a bit extender in a small sheath in my front pocket, so I am prepared for most repairs I come across.
The one-hand opening blades work very smoothly, and are large enough for anything I need a knife for and they take a razor edge. You really do not need to carry an extra knife.
The scissors are big enough for easy use.
The pliers are very sturdy. The whole unit is solid and makes for a dependable all-purpose tool.
It is nice to have the blade exchanger for the saw and file blades. Since the file blade can be carried separately you can use the side with the diamond coated surface to touch up the blade if needed.
I actually have several Surges. Some came with a leather sheath, and others with a nylon sheath.
The leather sheath is compact and will hold the Surge and the extra blade for the blade exchanger and a bit extender, but it will not hold the 42 bit kit. The nylon sheath will hold the Surge, plus the 42 bit kit, the extra blade for the exchange and the bit extender for those who don't like pocket carry.
You also have the option of getting a pocket clip for the Surge.
If you are looking for a heavy-duty multi-tool, for daily use I would highly recommend the Surge.
If the weight of the Surge is more than you like to carry, I would recommend the Charge TTI or Wave with the 42 bit kit and bit extender. They will still handle most daily repairs you come across.
