Eric Rohmer's third 'seasonal' film after A Tale Of Springtime and A Winter's Tale is set in a Britanny seaside town where young student Melvil Poupaud, while awaiting the arrival of his beloved Aurélia Nolin, falls first, platonically, for Amanda Langlet and then for her sister Gwenaëlle Simon, an affair complicated when Nolin unexpectedly turns up. Rohmer's exploration of the problems of love and friendship is masterful, aided by four superb central performances.
