1930's Struggle
Historical fiction - 1930's The Great Depression and The Dust Bowl, no rain for 4 or more years in the states from Texas to Nebraska. Families forced to move west to CA with nothing - they were starved and dirty, they were treated badly by most in CA. Unions were beginning to form then to fight for a living wage. learned a lot about dustbowl. was best part of the story..the "exodus" to california and ensuing union battles not so much interest to me. almost 2 separate stories w/in one book. i would have preferred more about the people who didn't flee but stayed to "fight the fight. characters so, so..the big story was the dust bowl itself. the cataclysmic natural event. my rating B+.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

This author is amazing. I love this book. It is a story about the Dust Bowl era in Texas and the exit from Texas to California. It is heart wrenching at times. This is probably one of the best novels about the 1930s in the us. Kristin Hannah is a good writer who creates characters with depth. The story line is layered and moves along.
