Wow! Great set is cans!
I’ve been stuck between the Bose QC35ii and these for longer than expected. I’m so glad I settled on these.
The sound is immersive and the bass (following equaliser adjustments) is pretty close to the XB950BT’s, if not, on par, which is astonishing!
The noise cancellation is very very good. However, I’ve found the adaptive setting slightly annoying. It auto adjusts the noise cancelling based on your environment, which is excellent, but it chimes every time it changes and pauses the music. I don’t see the purpose of this chime. I’d rather it adjust passively in the background without interrupting my music. Simple fix is to turn it off and adjust the noise cancelling profiles in-app. Easy.
They’re very comfortable headphones too, which is another reason I’d picked them over the Bose. I found the Bose to feel hard against my head, where the 1000x’s have a softer cushioned leather.
The touch controls are perfect! Why? They’re simple, logical and easy to remember. They also work very well, compared to other touch sensitive headphones I’ve used.
The aesthetics. They’re an amazing looking pair of headphones. Even the feel of them is premium, particularly when compared to the QC 35ii’s, I believe Sony are way ahead on build quality.
Lastly, it only has two buttons; power and an adaptable button, which you can assign either noise control or assistant (Google or Alexa only).
As mentioned above, if you switch off the adaptive sound control, then you’re best to leave this set to Noise cancel controls as you can hold it for a couple of seconds and it’ll reassess the environment and set the best profile, saving you opening the app.
If it allowed Siri on the adaptive button and didn’t chime when it changes sound profiles, I would score this 10/10. But for for these two minor minor concerns, I’ll settle on 8.5/10!
