Heavy weight solid feeder, good value for money - has one drawback
Very solid feeder, none of the squirrels can get into the food, all given up - though still hang about and try the others. Definitely good value for money item. However, some of the birds don't like it. The tiny birds still get food out, but anything larger than a bluetit doesn't seem to like it. I think it is because they have to go right inside the cage part really to get at the food. The other caged feeders I have, have less width between cage and food and all the birds use them as they balance on the cage edge, but they are cheap and quite flimsy and falling apart. This one is solid but none of the greenfinches/goldfinches/chaffinches will use it. Perhaps they feel trapped when they are trying to get food. Probably best to use alongside other feeders. Heavy duty but.........
I'm somewhat disappointed with this feeder. It has an inner and outer top. The outer top has the hanging loop and holds the clear feed tube in place. The thing is, this top fits onto 2 pegs and doesn't seem to be a very firm or tight fit. The inner top through which you fill the feeder also fits onto 2 pegs and is a bit awkward to put on. I have my doubts whether this inner and outer top arrangement will stand up to being blown about in the wind and attacked by very inquisitive and persevering squirrels. In addition, the feeding holes have plastic not metal fittings. The similar fittings on my previous feeder were quickly chewed off by young small squirrels who were able to get inside the outer guard bars. Time will tell.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Very strong weather proof feeder
After a month the small birds are using it at last, I replaced an old smaller one but I still kept one of the old ones out along side of this one so they had time to adjust to the new styling of this, I did purchase another two to put out but I'm waiting till the birds use this one more than they are at the moment. On the plus side it is a very strong well built feeder and with the large covered top it keeps the sunflower hearts nice and dry, the feeder and cage comes apart easily to clean, but that's where the negatives come in, it comes apart too easily, and until I got use to this it kept falling apart when I put it out, it only takes a slight movement of the top to unlock itself, I tried to bend the latch a bit to stop it moving so easily, on the other ones I will try and drill in an extra bit where it slides in so it can go into a new section where it can't slide out unless you manually take it out. Also I keep having to shake the feeder because it doesn't seem to slide down and gets stuck either side of the opening and since it falls apart easily I need both hands to hold it together to be able to shake it, I also have to check it hasn't moved out of the slots before putting it back on the hook. But overall it's strong and a reasonably priced to what I've been looking at in the shops and with a bit of DIY it should be a really good feeder.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Squirrel and Starling proof
I have had a bit of bother with ball-shaped cage types similar to this and have had squirrels trapped in the cage half in and half out after gorging themselves. I had to use mole-grips to expand the bars to free one large female. This product has smaller and more regular gaps in the cage which will stop adventurous squirrels, Starlings and Magpies from decimating the food within. Well made and convenient to refill. Great for small birds.
NO MORE STARLINGS!! The local starling population terrorise any other bird that comes into my garden. Ive tried the cheaper versions of these and the bars are too wide apart and too near the seed tube, so they still get everything. The blue and great-tits soon got used to flying in and can feed in peace...I still have a normal feeder for the greedies, but now they dont get everything..Bliss.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

A very sturdy, no nonsense bird feeder. I purchased two, both have squirrels hanging off them to no avail. I'm not heartless. I scatter a few monkey nuts around the garden which keeps both squirrels and the birds happy. What is really important you can take the feeder to pieces to clean and sterilise it. Well constructed.
This is a solid, well constructed product with all main parts made of metal. However, like most feeders, its weak point is the lid which fits with a turn. It doesn't take long for squirrels to learn how to remove it, so I secure mine with wire tied across from side to side. Excellent addition to our bird feeder.

Great feeder!
I bought a second feeder as they are very well made. I have 1 for nuts, which the tit species like, and the second for sunflower hearts, for the goldfinch. Took a little while for the birds to get used to the outer cage, but they do feed from it now, and it keeps the starlings off. They have fat balls!
