After owning a Casio Wavecepter solar powered radio controlled watch, which was very good even though if you took the watch outside Europe the radio timekeeping didn't work. I thought the bluetooth enabled EQB 500 Edifice would be a worthwhile upgrade. I was wrong. The watch case is large, over 50mm across the buttons and quite thick. It is, nevertheless, comfortable to wear and the clasp is really secure. It is fairly easy to Bluetooth link to an android phone (S5) and the changing display with the three different modes is quite fascinating for the first couple of times. However, when in calendar mode; date, day and time both day and date can be obscured by the hands in passing. In stopwatch mode I still haven't worked out how to time repeated lap times or record them (I don't actually need or want this feature but Casio states that it can do it and I can't find out how...instructions later!) Alarm mode is set from the Edifice app on the phone and is easy to do. It's such a pity that the alarm tone is so quiet. It wouldn't wake me up if I had set it for an early start! The display is visually attractive as I have the blue dial but there is no night light other than the luminous markers. Even the old Wavecepter had an electric light and this has nothing. Like all luminous markers they have to be exposed to bright light and then gradually fade so that even in pitch darkness they are very difficult to see after 5 or 6 hours, just about when you might reasonably expect to be able to see them. There is no 12'oclock specific marker and it's easy to misread the time by an hour in the dark even if you still have a bit of a glow left. The email inbox alarm is next to useless. It has never told me when I had email on any of the 3 (Max 5) accounts I have. One good thing it did without prompting was to adjust to daylight saving without any trouble. I'm waiting to see what happens when I cross time zones. Finally, it is an attractive, not quite blingy, piece of wristwear and I am tending to wear it more than my Rolex submariner but I wouldn't buy another one.
