Good isolation and quite flat/neutral in sound. Great value for money.
The F stands for flat and you may prefer a more bass tuned model for listening to some types of music. I needed headphones to use with my Yamaha silent guitar. I found everything I tried was too bass weighted. These are the best closed back headphones I have tried for this purpose and give excellent isolation so that I do not disturb others in the same room. However if you are not bothered about isolation I would recommend the semi open backed 661F as better sounding. The pads are quite thick but I found them uncomfortable for long sessions so I bought a cheap pair of velour pads off ebay which were easy to fit and solved the problem. Amazing sound quality for not much money
I’m blown away by the sound quality of these ‘phones. First impressions were not great because the packaging (a clear blister pack with a card insert and accessory box) was pretty low rent but does a good job of transit protection. Whilst the quality of plastics is good and finish is adequate they do lack the polish and extra appeal of the equivalent AKG model but of course that keeps the price low. Listen to them and you can see where the money saved on the aesthetics has gone. A surprisingly open soundstage, very little leakage and a pleasing flat response across the range. I’m not saying they lack bass because where it matters the bass reproduction is strong, very clear and well separated. I listen to a lot of classical and jazz and I would say these headphones are ideal for picking out the clarity of single instruments within the performance or recording. That said I love a bit of 80s rock as well and my fave track “ Time Again” by Asia sounds awesome through these and well balanced as the kids don’t need cranking back to get the bass. I’ve fiddled with EQ settings and you do get quite different results .. as you should.. with various tracks but I tend to now stick with a flat EQ and I’m happy to hear nuances never heard before on favourites. If you love your Drum and Bass or live a thumping track then a “B” bass version of the “F” flat model is available. I only drop a star due to the fact that for maybe another £10-£15 Superlux could probably wow with the finish of the product maybe with some design detailing, metal or wood insert etc just to give it the same wow to look at as it sounds. Also although initially comfy I find the leatherette ear covers can feel a bit sweaty after an hour, though they are better than my MF-100 in that respect for comfort ( and sound way better). They are light but very bulky. They are my home choice when I definitely don’t want to disturb anyone else in a quiet room( library test). Easily driven by my hi-res FiiO M3K but could do with an amp to boost when connected to my iPod classic. These are definitely a hi-Fi quality product with a hi-res compatible output. Pair it with a hi-res player for the full effect. ( My FiiO M3K at £60 paired with these ‘phones is a bargain hi-res hi-Fi combo) I would recommend Superlux products based on these ‘phones.
