  • Hornby King Rules the Rails

Simply excellent. Detail level is stunning and the model runs beautifully. The sound is good too, even for a budget system. It does exactly what you want. It gets you a DDC ready locomotive with sound for a more than reasonable price. If you're a GWR or BR fan I strongly recommend getting one of these. Or even if you're not, find an excuse to run one on your layout. You won't be disappointed

  • HORNBY SOUND FITTED KING CLASS

A first class product from the Hornby stable. Ran straight out of the box and after running in, was quite at ease hauling a rake of 12 Bachman Mk1 coaches. The sound function was easy to use and I was particularly impressed with the built in slow down when stopping the loco. A great product, excellent detail, I commend it to all GWR/Western Region modellers.

  • GOOD, BUT NOT PERFECT - LOVE IT ANYWAY!

The detail and realism is awesome - it's as good as if they'd just shrunk the full size loco - but that's what you get (and pay for) with the 'Railways' models, as opposed to the simpler 'Railroad' ones. However, all those tiny fiddly bits are easily damaged and even tend to drop off in use, so this is a serious modellers item, and not really for younger children. It's a good runner too, but I have an equally detailed Railways J36 'Maude' that beats it hands down, and even a basic 'Railroad' Flying Scotsman that's smoother at slow speed, especially when coming to a stop - 'George' is slightly jerky, and for £150 that's not impressive. So to be fair I'd give it 4 out of 5, or probably more like 9 out of 10 - but small niggles aside it's still one of my favourite locos, especially as it looks gorgeous on the track - and the TTS sound is definitely the best I've got!

  • Brilliant

Excellant range of sound at good volume and realism. If using an elink and computer to set up a programmed sequence of movement and sound a very realistic result can be achieved. As the track contacts are fitted to all driving wheels and all the tender wheels reliable power and signal reception is achieved even when creeping at a slow speed across points. The level of detail and finish is very good.
