1989 brought about the Ford Motor Company's possible future for the Mustang: The Ford Probe, which was a badge-engineered version of the Mazda 626 Coupe, was a pleasing shape and a good car for its time, but was a dead-end. Just like the 1974-1978 (mini) Mustang II based on the Pinto, people who bought Mustangs wanted a rear-wheel drive Mustang, not a clone of a Mazda front-driver. This model is an accurate, faithful representative of the best front-drive Ford of its generation.
