Orange Micro Terror review -
Big tube amp from small package. The tube driven preamp gives that warm full tube tone at the price and scale of a compact solid state amplifier. The gain seems to function best up to 12:00 high. After that, you get too much unwanted distortion. When played with very little gain, this amp gives a bright "chimey" tele sound.
I noticed a little ac hum when turning up the treble. My guitar has a split coil switch on the humbucking pickups and the ac hum is more pronounced when in single coil mode. I was able to get rid of that completely by using a Pyle PHE400 Hum / Noise Eliminator.
I purchased this 8 ohm version to replace a bad amplifier in a very old Peavy guitar amplifier cabinet. I simply wired the speaker to a bulkhead plate mounted 1/4" phone jack, converting the amp to a passive speaker cabinet. For the mounting plate, do a search on this site for BLACK METAL SINGLE 1/4" SPEAKER CABINET JACK PLATE 2" OUTSIDE DIA. This combination produces enough volume for our church band in about a 2000 sq ft sanctuary. It's also perfect for an in-home practice amp.
These are made in 4 ohm and 8 ohm versions, so make sure your speaker and amplifier are matched in impedance.
Great value for the price!
