Solar Rings as opposed to cover

You need a lot of them to get significant coverage if you have a normal to above normal sized pool. This makes them a pretty expensive option. If you have a custom shaped pool, they are probably a better option as opposed to a cover that gets pretty heavy and awkward to remove. Overall - they do a very good job of heating and preventing evaporation (this is why I bought them, and hence 5 stars for that). A few notes (and the reason i have them one less star). Often, when you go to remove them, you will find that many don't hold half to all of their air when you take them out of the pool. So i have to re-inflate about 3-4 of the 20 of them to keep them inflated. 2nd - do NOT leave them in the direct sun when they are out of the pool. They get very hot and the plastic almost feels like it will melt. Rinse them off (if possible) - I have heard that the chlorine can fade/wear on them if it dries on them out of the pool.

  • Most critical review

    How useful are they?

I purchased 6 of these for an above ground round pool. It's very difficult to judge how effective they are. The pool did get warmer recently however the weather has been warmer and the nights have not been as cool. When I first installed them and we had a few cooler nights the water still seemed too cool. Without having a side by side test comparison of a pool with and without them it is very difficult to judge how effective they are. I would say that they may help but don't expect miracles.

  • Easy to remove/install

Instead of purchasing another 24' round solar cover, we decided to try the solar sun rings. Pros: solar rings are easy to remove and install from in or out of pool. No bulky solar reel required. No modifications/mounts required on top rail. Easy to fold and stack on deck. Note: keep out of direct sunlight. Cons: Pricey compared to a single solar cover.. Purchased the 12 pack or rings as recommended for 24' round pool, but can actually use 16-17 rings. Again pricey. We also use the solar fish to act as a liquid solar cover. Verdict still out on durability and heating of rings as this is our first season.

  • Good but not great!

1 out of 9 rings has a hole in the inner portion that is used to absorb the sunlight. I patched it and the patches are of lame quality. The manufacturing of this part could be a lot better with no air needed. Just make bubbles like a real solar cover!

  • Solar rings SSRI

My experience is that 15-20 % of the rings upon delivery are not air tight either in the central or outer ring compartments. Some vendors have replaced the dedfecitive ones at no charge, others do not. My sense is the QC in the manufacturer is not good. They are effective In reducing evaporation and maintaining water temp. But are fragile.

  • Solar Sun Rings add heat and reduce expense of heating your pool.

These Solar Rings are making a difference in my pool. I have a gas heater and the expense was very high. Since adding these rings I've noticed a big decrease in the running of the heater. The biggest draw back is they are fairly fragile and need to be treated with care.

  • Solar Sun Rings

Many people have rated these Sun Rings poorly, not necessarily from this supplier. But so far they seem to be doing great. They are a little fragile and should be handled with some care, you couldn't have kids jumping on them, etc. So far my only complaint is the price. To fill my pool I need 18, that's a big investment.

  • Best option for irregular shaped pools

They work pretty well. Valve stem could seal better and would be nice if they lasted longer than 2 years. Brand new they work good. I just replace 4-5 every year.

  • Solar power

Works great for heating water!! Air Plugs are kinda contrary. Anchors work well in high winds. Two tornados and didn't lose any rings!!

  • Price should be about $12 each for the quality received.

I purchased nine of these for a 12'x24' above ground Doughboy pool. Although all were received in new bags one of the 9 had several holes in the center section. The patches included are worthless as they fall off quickly. I used Shoe Goo to fix the 3 holes and it holds air now. It is hard to say these are of good value when it costs almost $250 to cover a 12x24 pool and I can purchase a solar cover for less than half that price. They do work well at stopping the pool from heating up over 90 degrees. I was able to maintain 84-85 through July. There was water vaporization and lots of bugs each morning. It's a trade off for keeping the temperature below 93 in Southwest. My biggest concern is the durability of them. They are not very thick and they are super sensitive to how much air is inside verses outside.
