A Game for lovers of strategic gaming.
This is the latest rendition of a well established game of strategy. The game components are well made, the cardboard tiles are the same quality as the Carcassonne Tiles only a little smaller. I particularly like the plastic “ Leaders” as opposed to the former wooden discs. There is a double sided board for a more complex game and extra parts for a mini expansion for the more experienced players. overall the quality is good although it would have been nice to have had a compartmentalised area within the box to segregate the various parts.
The actual gameplay can be very dynamic when after relative quiet periods of empire building, a player makes a sudden strike from across the opposite side of the board where a players good fortune can swing to impending defeat in a very short time. However, what appeals to me is that the usual rules of establishing one’s territories and thereafter entrenching and solidifying your defences doesn’t always apply here. Be prepared to move your ground quickly and “ Do onto others as they do to you”
Although there is a small element of luck involved in the distribution of the Tiles, good planning will usually overcome this factor. Once the rules are learned and after 2-3 games are played you will wonder why you may have felt a little intimidated when first opening the Rulebook.
This is a game that will endure many plays rather like Chess although not as complicated. The two player game of T & E will go very quickly. The game can move very very quickly when your opponent makes an unanticipated attack. The entire layout of the Tiles and Leader placement can change when the losing side in a battle is compelled to remove Tiles and Leaders from the board.
The objective of the game is to gather points for each of your four different Leaders; King ( Black) Priest ( Red) Trader ( Green) and Farmer ( Blue) Most importantly; the LOWEST score counts as opposed to the highest. In effect, you may have a score of 25,19,16 & 4 on the aforementioned Leaders but only the 4 matters unless there is a tie, in which case the players compare their next lowest number etc.
A well recommended purchase and “ Happy Days” to follow if you find a “ Worthy “ opponent.
