Does exactly as you would expect

Bought this to run with another brand of powerline that has a wifi point. So I purchased it with a little trepidation but I wanted to get one of the fastest of the, relatively current, homeplugs to make it more future proof. Plugged the Solwise in and although the very, very bright green led's on the front of the device are a little intrusive, it worked a treat straight out of the box.

OK on a common ring main but expensive compared to a good Wireless USB Adaptor.

Easy to set up and works OK providing both adaptors are plugged into a common ring main. If not, then the transmitted speeds can be significantly reduced. I have a Windows 10 desktop and Virgin 200 Mps broadband with the PC and the Virgin Router on different ring mains. With the Solwise, the orange LED (indicating sub optimal reception) was always blinking on and off and the highest download speed was around 75 Mps. Changed to a wireless TP Link Archer 1200 USB Adaptor and a full 210 Mps was immediately attainable. Given that the TP Link is much less expensive (around £25) versus circa £85 for 2 x Solwise, I believe the TP Link to be the better solution for my set up - especially since a Windows 10 Driver is now available for download. The Solwise works fine off a common ring main. However for those in any doubt about the layout of their 240 AC mains supplies, my advice would be to play safe and get a good wireless adaptor such as the TP Link Archer, and to make sure it is plugged into a USB3 socket. NB: Most modern PC's are fitted with one or more USB3 sockets which have a higher speed handing capability than the older USB2 sockets. USB3 sockets are readily identifiable via their bright blue plastic insert. USB2 inserts are black).

I paired this with my existing network of Solwise/AZTech AV1200 pass through plugs. Using iperf3 I found it was significantly slower (~33%) although still usable - there were many retries as opposed to zero before. The new plug had a higher firmware revision than all the others and with Homeplugs it's not sufficient that all the plugs in a network have to be same manufacturer and model, they have to have the same firmware revision for best performance. NOT THE SELLER'S FAULT IN ANY WAY.

  • Waste of time and money

Worked for one week then lost contact with other home plug and network, no amount of resetting helps and the instructions are totally useless as it does not do as the instructions imply ..........lesson learned, would not buy again.

  • Network for Dummies

Simple to setup, use and enjoy. Probably the hardest thing about it is to remember that you need at least two. Plugged my three in and no more unsightly wiring.
