Well made and functional little preamp
I bought this phono preamp partly because of the volume control but in fact was a little disappointed that it did not boost the input signal from my turntable and seemed to have less volume than the inbuilt phono preamp of the Technics class AA amplifier I was using via the aux input. Meh.
This unit is OK if you have no other options. It seems to 'color' the turntable output a bit darker than I would like. I used the aux channel to boost the gain of the analog output on my HDMI splitter and it does a fine job on that without coloring the sound like it did on the turntable. The variable output is sort of a joke. It might be a plus if one is using Moving Coil cartridges on a turntable but of my MM cartridges - and on the aux channel I have to turn it all the way up to get a signal. For my money it would have been smarter and cheaper to just set the output to max and save the build money on the variable output. I needed something for the HDMI splitter so I'm still using it that way but for the turntable I had to buy a different phono preamp.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Does what it says.
New computer sound cards do not seem to have the input headroom that the older ones did! Adjustable feature allows gain to be reduced so as to not overload the input circuits of the sound card. Seems like the sound card designers are not aware of real world conditions, so this is a very good work around.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Nice phono amp for traditional MM cartridges, with Aux input feature.
Nice to have a volume control knob on the unit, and great to have an Aux input for regular signal level inputs (phone or tablet). The amplifier has good S/N ratio, probably in the high 60's dB range. The power supply is a DC wall-wart type and has pretty low noise. I tested this with various AC plug orientations against a quiet 12V battery supply. Very pleased with this unit which amplifies my AR XA-1 turn table with XV-15 MM cartridge into a dedicated amplifier unit.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Awesome preamp for old turntables!
I think this is a really good preamp to get you up and running with an old turntable that doesn't have one built in. The TEC TC-753LC preamp highly recommended!
I needed a preamp for my Acoustic Research XA turntable and this little unit is perfect: it has an MM phono cartidge input as well as a line input, and it has a volume control! The unit is solid and well made with aluminum construction. The preamp comes with a couple of cables and a wall power supply. Works perfectly, very highly recommended!
