Truly Budget Freindly With a Quality Sound
I have a fair number of headphones both open back and closed back used for tracking and critical listening and in some cases even mixing. The Tascam TH-300X are very nice and extremely budget friendly. They have nice overall sound quality and if your trying to decide between them and the Tascam TH-200X there is no question you should choose the 300 version. You can hear the highs clearly and the bass is clean and clear not boomy.
I find the 300X's great for tracking in my studio, especially for drummers and loud guitarist. They also do a very admirable job on containing bleed when doing vocals. While I do mix with headphones on rare occasions, I would more than likely not use these for that purpose, though I guess I could if there were no other choices.
I do, however, have consensus with folks that have used them in my studio about 2 gripes that should be considered. First, the ear pads while great for isolating make for "sweaty" ears, there is no breathable material. The second is what Tascam calls "Twisted Cable". Unfortunately, it's not that extendable and tends to pull on the Left Ear-cup uncomfortably (note to Tascam: just make the cable straight like the 200X - it works much better).
Overall, I would recommend these headphones, especially at this price point, but maybe not for long listening sessions.
