The be-all and end-all of hedge shears
Straight out of the box, these ARS HS-KR1000s will slice paper like the best quality scissors. Just stupid sharp. And they stay that way. I've got probably 8-10 hours of nothing but reining in and shaping an out of control row of 16 head high boxwoods. Mind you, I wouldn't use these on much over 1/4 to 3/8" diameter brush but they breeze through the rougher stuff no problem and maintain that razo sharpness for the more delicate cuts. Though I dont have the talent myself, I imagine these would also be perfect for topiary sculpting. They also seem more immune to picking up sap/dirt than my ARS pruner blades. I've only needed a quick wipe down with rubbing alcohol and a light spray of WD-40 before putting them away for the night. Do you need to spend $80-$120 on a set of hedge shears? Probably not but, if you enjoy the craftsmanship and performance of a superbly made tool, you kind of owe it to yourself to experience these.
