Works well with RANS Screamer Tandem Recumbent
My wife and I recently purchased a RANS Screamer tandem recumbent bike and we're getting a little worried about how to transport it around town, and even more so on longer trips out of town. This bike is VERY long, about 102" nose to tail, and also has a long wheelbase - about 78" from tire to tire (at road contact points). Additionally it has an unusual frame geometry that does not match up well with many standard bike racks. The Thule 558P is about as perfect a fit as we could hope for. The only caveat is that we need to remove the seats in order to reduce wind drag and make the bike lighter for loading. Not a huge deal as the seats have quick release mechanisms, but still a consideration for anybody looking at this rack. Furthermore, with the pivoting front wheel clamp, I can actually load this huge tandem onto the roof by myself if need be, although it's much easier with two people, so I rarely do it alone. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RACK. it's a little pricey I know, but worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.
