The clue is in the item description - LED dimmer, best use LED bulbs or switch runs hot
Good - build quality, design, reputation, good price for LED dimmer, programmable. Very good technical services, when I phoned Varilight I got straight through to a guy in UK who new what he was talking about. Not so good - the fitting instructions indicate different maximum loads for halogen & incandescent bulbs. However if you go anywhere near the limit for incandescent bulbs the switch unit gets really hot, too hot. Must actually waste a lot of power! Tech guy told me not to worry as there is a heat sink in the switch, and the unit will detect excess heat and protect himself However, he also said these units are specifically for LEDs, and not the most suitable for conventional bulbs - Varilight have other less fancy dimmers that do the job better, and don't get so hot. My light fittings need clear candle bulbs, but LED bulbs are either not available or far too expensive, so I put in 27W halogens, which give good light, but don't fry the switch.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Dimmer switch not recommended. Design faulty
Unfortunately the item arrived damaged. Packing also torn. The insulation on one of the two dimmer units was broken, the missing piece was found in the packaging. I have installed the dimmer and it is working fine, the damage is not effecting the working. However I had to cut the house wires to get them to fit into the connection holes. The holes for the wires are too small for the standard sized house cabling. The manufacturer should be made aware of this defect.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Properly working LED dimmer
Great LED dimmer switch. I use several different LED dimmers from Varilight and never disappointed. It's a great piece of technology and is well worth the price. Quality dimmer switch!
Works well! There is no buzzing sounds or flickering lights. I’m using Aurora Enlights with their own dimmable LEDs. Normally, I use cheap dimmers but this was for use where I need the lights to dim considerably. You can programme it, but all I want is it to dim right down as my spotlights are too harsh. Very impressed. Probably dim down to 5-10% from maximum brightness. There is a two to three second delay from pushing the switch and the light coming on, which is not what I’m used to. Perhaps this can be programmed out. I don’t know? A criticism is that the holes for the cables could be a bit larger in diameter. I struggled to get two 1.5mm cables into the connector. It’d also be nice to have had white plastic plugs to hide the screw holes. Glad I bought it though, and not a cheap one like I normally do.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
