  • Great viewfinder, weather sealed.

I already owned Lumix G series cameras and lenses. I bought a GX8 as it has an excellent viewfinder, easily usable while wearing glasses. The best EVF I've used, as good as an old pro level 35mm SLR, maybe better, with very wide dioptre adjustment. The EVF is much better than the GX80 and a little better than the G80. The camera body is rain and dust sealed, another advantage over the GX80. It's not small but is very nicely designed and well balanced so it feels lighter than it is. I find it slightly easier in use than smaller Lumix cameras as I'm less prone to pressing buttons by mistake. The 20MP sensor with OLPF is good, maybe not quite as razor sharp as the newer sensors without a low pass filter, but that is marginal. Downsides: It lacks the L.Monochrome modes of newer Lumix cameras, and its IBIS is not quite as good as the newer models but, again, this is a very small difference. It can be a complex device. You do need to read the manual and probably set up the custom modes to save some sets of choices. On the other hand you probably could set it to Intelligent Auto RAW+JPEG and blast away and and get excellent results in almost every case. If you want a weather sealed body with great viewfinder this is an excellent choice.

  • A great step-up

Moving up from my much used G3 I am very happy with the first results from the GX8. It shares many of the same comprehensive control feature any Lumix user would be familiar with. I do quite a lot of bird and nature photography and have immediately noticed the improvement in quality of the outcomes. I believe this is as a result of the larger sensor, better in camera and lens stabilisation and pairing with the 100-400mm lens. I have also used the Panasonic Firmware update service, available on-line with easy to follow instructions, for the camera body and my Panasonic lenses so can be confident I am getting the very best from the equipment. The Warbler photo was handheld, against the light, on a bright day, and at maximum range on the 400 telephoto.

  • Great system

After years of using Leica equipment I have moved down-market without regrets. It is not difficult to use, but because of the number of features and corresponding complexity of the menu system, it does present challenges. But, of course, you can ignore the complexity and sophistication, and set it to automatic. The Panasonic prime lenses are mostly of excellent quality; I cannot comment on the zoom lenses. The electronic viewfinder is excellent, if rather dim in bright light, and one of the reasons that brought me to this camera, as I dislike composing on a rear screen at arms length.

  • An awesome powerhouse of an image maker

The LUMIX GX8 is a fantastic mirror less camera. Weatherproof, magnesium alloy build, compact design, rotating LCD and flip up EVF combined with a stunning 20MP Micro Four Thirds sensor, make this an image taking marvel, both for stills and for video. Exclusive features like Post Focus and 4K Photo, means capturing that crucial moment is almost always guaranteed (human error is not the fault of the GX8). I absolutely love my GX8. It is the most rounded camera I have ever used, which coming from a background with Full Frame Pro Canon and Nikon bodies, speaks volumes. I love it.

  • Good balance between photographic quality and portability

I bought this camera as a backup camera to replace the one i previously used for that purpose. Although i was already quite familiar with the Micro Four Thirds system, i must say that i am positively impressed with this one's performance and features.
