    Binatone Big Button Mobile

I bought this for my 86 year old mum, who's old mobile had finally given up the ghost. She needed a phone to make & receive calls and text messages...... doesn't need a camera, facebook etc as she hasn't got a computer and wouldn't know how to use one. She also needed a phone that was reasonably loud, easy to read, doesn't need charging every few hours, and is simple to use. This phone ticks all the boxes. It is very basic (that's a plus point, not a criticism). It has a few extras (Radio, calendar) that I don't suppose she'll ever need, but also a torch function that is simple to use and a good idea. I have only rated it 4 out of 5 for two reasons: 1. The SOS button is far too easy to activate - a 1 second press on the button will phone & text up to 5 numbers with your personal request for help. If the time was set to 5 or 10 seconds there would be less chance of accidentally activating this. Unfortunately there's no way of adjusting this on the phone, so I have turned off this function, which is easy to do via the phone's menu. 2. The User "manual" which comes in the box is tiny (3" x 1.5") and almost impossible to read without a magnifying glass, which is not ideal considering the target market is the elderly. True, the manual does state that a fullsize manual is available for download, but not all elderly people are computer savvy (my mum definitely isn't) and to co compound the error Binatone then give the wrong web address anyway. It took a bit of Googling by me to find a phone number for Binatone UK, and a bit of phone work ("please hangup & redial our new number....") but eventually I got through to a very helpful man who promised to send a full sized manual in the post to my mum's address free of charge. This actually arrived within 24 hours - so many thanks to Binatone Customer Services - excellent service. All in all the phone is exactly what mum needs...she's really happy with it, and because of it's simplicity she grasped how to use it immediately. The battery seems to hold it's charge well. I can't speak re the durability of the phone as she's only had it a few weeks, but initial view is that it was a real bargain.

Good Simple Phone For An Older Person.

I bought this phone my wife she likes the big numbers and clear screen. The down side is the battery life, from full charge to flat in a short space of time, she's been caught out a couple of times when ringing me for a lift home. I've never experience this before may this might be a faulty battery.

  • Great for older technophobes!

My 75 year old husband needed a new phone (after refusing to have a mobile for years!) I found this model on eBay and showed him the picture which gained approval! I found it quite easy to set up although the input of contacts was slightly challenging - ask your children or grandchildren! After a quick tutorial on actually using it he managed to operate it without any hassles. The larger buttons are a bonus and overall it 'does what it says on the tin' A basic , simple to use.. mobile phone - ideal for someone who needs just that! Too soon to comment on battery life but we are very pleased with our purchase and would recommend this model

  • Just the job for my old dad

It's simple enough, buttons good size, has an emergency button that when set up works well. My Dad fell asleep and was pressing the emergency button, call came through needed help, lucky for us we live 2 minutes away. When we got there, we're obviously expecting the worst, but then realise what had happened after waking him up. So pleased it worked as it did, despite the false alarm.

  • Easy to use

Bought this for my 83 year old mother with poor sight to replace a similar Binatone phone which she had had for some years. The phone is easy to use with a bright clear screen. However if you are buying this for someone with poor hearing you may want to try a different make or model because the earpiece volume is quite low even on full volume.

  • easy set up and use

I bought this for my mother, after setting it up for her which was very easy; she is finding it very easy to use, a mild feat for an 88 year old. I am very pleased with its size and the large buttons

  • Big button Phone

The buttons are bigger than modern phones but for an OAP the whole phone really needs to be a lot bigger. It looks and feels like a child's toy but the actual functions are very good. Definitely not a phone to impress with, but useful functions for the more elderly person. Will only accept a 2g SIM card. Not downwardly compatible with 3g or above.

  • Good Mobile For My Dad

Got this for my Dad about a year ago. Pros - It is cheap, - has nice big buttons, - a clear display, - with long battery life of a week or so. Cons Ringer distorts on maximum level. My dad says he is not bothered by the distorted ring tone and is happy to be able to hear it. He can hear the person at the other end of the call OK. As I said the buttons are nice and big for him to see them and use his rather large fingers to dial numbers with or answer a call. It is so cheap that I would buy him another one if he loses it.

  • Binatone big button phone

Just right for arthriticky fingers. Good, clear instructions for set-up. I recommend it for the elderly like me! The controls are so simple to use. It is just a simple phone, with no unnecessary games and other distractions...So easy to keep with me day and night with a little belt and case round my waste. I bought it after falls and it gives me peace of mind. Thank you Dorothy M
