The album was mixed by Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Lance Powell and Andrew Dominik at Conway in Los Angeles. According to Nick Cave, 'The songs on disc one are the children, the songs on disc two are their parents. Ghosteen is a migrating spirit'.

I have always liked Nick Cave. Cave surrounds himself with great musicians and produces quality music. I always eagerly anticipate the next album. Ghosteen is just Art, It is a masterpiece. Cave;s bereavement and grief have lifted his consistently great music to another level. I would not wish the heartbreak that Cave has gone through on any one but he uses that pain to infuse the music with raw emotion.
