Great fun to use, plus the grandkids find it fun.

Nice alternative to Amazon Echo.
I already have an Echo Dot (3rd gen). The built in speaker on this is a little better. It's also better at answering questions: it uses Google search rather than Bing (as used by the Echo). On the down side, Bluetooth is a little flaky; both in terms of connecting to devices, where I often have to revert to using the app on my phone; and audio dropouts, which are a lot more common with this than with the Echo. All of my smart devices (three bulbs and a plug), work with either of these devices at the same time: you can turn something on with the Echo and off with the Nest, or vice versa. Switching times are quicker with this device but the echo has a grouping function which allows a few devices in the same room to be controlled as one object which doesn't appear to be an option with the Nest (for the moment at least). An example: my main light has three bulbs while my smart plug is controlling the Christmas tree lights; if I wish to turn off the main light, but leave the Christmas tree lights on, I can issue one command to the Echo: “turn off main light” - a group of three bulbs I’ve setup in the Alexa App; with the Nest, I either have to turn off the three bulbs separately (3 commands), or turn off all light in the living room and then turn just the tree lights back on (2 commands).Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great design easy to use
Great design easy-to-use good for turning lights on and off etc etc but if you ask it to play a pacific track of music or a song, forget it as all they want is a tenner a month off of you otherwise as all you hear is adverts, quite annoying. Hi , I bought this speaker with little to no knowledge of what it was capable of , and now it really is a necessity, so much so I have bought another. The sound is great , and I mean really great , and with Google assistant it can do so much more , it answers any questions I throw at it , it reads me the news as I get ready for work, tells me traffic reports before I leave , plays my music , sets my alarms , reads bedtime stories to the kids while I act them out , ive paired up two for stereo sound , they really are amazing , and for the price I can't recommend the nest mini enoughVerified purchase: YesCondition: New

So much better than it's competiton, these work straight out of the box :)
I have had Alexa devices for years now and got fed up of the constant issues and the complete lack of support from that "A" company. I decided to replace them all with these and the small display, well, I am so happy that I did it. There are big differences between the 2, and one of the things that stood out straight away is with the Google Nest you can't say "Play music similar to Kate Bush", all it does is play Kate Bush whereas Alexa will play a great mix of music similar to Kate, so how to get around this as it's how I like to play my music and find new songs? On Google I just ask for 1 song, so say "Play The Man with the child in his eyes, and it will play that song and then keep playing a mix of similar music, brilliant :) The Alexa ones kept turning off after 60 minutes, then when you ask for music it would say it stopped playing due to lack of activity? WTH?? Google devices do not do that, these have still been playing in the morning when I get up, which is perfect when I'm out of the house. All in all, I am very happy with these and have replaced every Alexa device in the house with Google ones :) I even 3D printed mounts to fix them to the plug socket to save trailing wires.

If you were lucky enough to acquire Chromecast Audio while they were available, to plug your hifi into streaming music such as Primephonic or a Google Play Music collection of ripped CDs, then these minis in conjunction with setting up default groups for music playback in Google Home, are the ideal way to mix new and old. No need to sacrifice speaker quality and compromise with a smart speaker - just talk to the Nest mini to get your music, weather forecast, and use it at moderate volume to fill any gaps in your house to have music all day and everywhere if you want. This is the second one of these speakers that I have purchased ( christmas present for family member), they are made to quite a high standard for the price point (£24.99). It is mostly okay
But it can get finicky quickly for no apparent reason. Sometimes just losses wi-fi connection or becomes unavoidable after working five minutes prior. If you lean too much towards the Apple ecosystem and don't have Spotify, yeah this is going to be difficult. Yes, it 'works' with Apple Music but not in the same integrated way that Spotify does. You can start a playlist on Spotify and cast to the speaker; you can't do the same on Apple Music. Who is the Best Alexa or Google.well I have an Alexa Echo, and now this Google Mini. My home has several smart features, lights, fans, and things. and I find that I have to ask Alexa more than once as she keeps saying " I don't Know That" But Google seems to understand me better and can distinguish me fro my wifes and answers us by name, and of course if you ask a question google has a world of information as its fingertips but Alexa justs looks on Wikipedia. and the Sound Quality of The Google Mini is Great for it's Size!
