Great upgrade from the Baratza Encore
The $100 step between a new Encore and a ~$250 new Virtuoso is too steep for me given the improvements that you get, but the ebay 'discount" on ones that are used or open box solved that for me.
Witht the price point having been addressed, I really appreciate the upgrades on the Virtuoso. The improved burr set grinds faster, a touch finer and a little cleaner (less fines, more accurate). I particularly like the adjustable grind timer (once set to your desired duration, just press the button and walk away). The Virtuoso start (& adjust) button/knob is easier to access than the on/off switch on the Encore. The overall finish is also improved, with an attractive led lit collection bin and some of the plastic body replaced with stainless steel. Overall, i really enjoy my upgrade.
Baratza makes excellent coffee grinders, and you won't find a company with better customer service. They believe in customer repair and reuse. These are not throw-away designs. They have an excellent website on diagnostics and repair. They also answer the phone and will walk to troubleshooting and repair. They make pretty much every part available for purchase (if they don't don't just send it to you for free). Both the Encore and Virtuoso are easy to take apart. These are long-life appliances.
