Tough and Fun!
So let me start this review by saying that I’m a big guy, 280 lbs. I’m also a beginner when it comes to boating. I’ve now tested and inflated it in the garage 3 times with the optional motor mount & 40lb trolling motor, taken this boat out twice on Lake St. Clair, and so far it’s been a quality boat! There was an initial issue with a missing floor board, but Intex support handled it easily and sent me another entire floor quickly, for free! It’s very stable and durable, the inflatable keel along with the extruded flooring makes it feel safe enough for even me to walk on. Very simple to transport and put together, about 30 minutes assembly. The included pump, though manual, is fast. Definitely an amazing value with all included, an awesome first experience for new boaters, and a quality rugged build. There are a few things I’m changing to make this even better:
- The 3 included cushions are comfortable and durable, but I found I had to stack them to make a proper seat height for me. To save room, I’m going to use a cooler as a seat.
- I’m using the separate Intex 40lb thrust trolling motor. It was made for this boat and does push it along nicely with my weight, a 90ah battery, and supplies. Being on the Great Lakes brings one challenge to this motor, current. A lot of video reviewers show the boat on calm waters while hauling low weight. To fix that, I’m getting a Seamax 65lb (2HP equivalent) brushless and stepless trolling motor. Much more energy efficient than regular brushed trolling motors while delivering the power needed.
- The included carrying bag fits the boat nicely, but is cumbersome to carry. I’ve seen some folks use a hockey bag (Very Canadian) to haul their inflatables. I’m going to try it!
