Fender Jazz Elite
Wow... Just wow.
The neck isn't as thin as previous Jazzes I have owned (72 reissue, Am standards and Deluxe). But as soon as you start playing it instantly feels like a Fender. The fretboard on mine is ebony, which really gives a bell/glassy tone giving good clarity.
The pick ups are noiseless 4s which are... almost noiseless. There is a little hum from the bridge pick up, but it is noticabley less than previous jazzes I have owned.
The pre amp is very workable, instantly I was able to dial in some sweet spots. Panning between the two pick ups then gives you an additional sweep. Fantastic.
The passive tone control being separated is brilliant, simple, but brillant. This is for me something that I hate with other manufacturers when they combine the passive tone control with one of the active eqs. This makes switching between tones mid song very fiddly. Not on this bass. Set your active tone and passive tone and then you can switch between the two. Brillant for solo boast, or for those times you may want to switch between playing styles (pick, fingers, slap etc).
As with all fenders the thing is built like a tank, it feels like it will travel the planet with you. I personally like Leo Fenders description of a quality instrument is easily repairable. Im not a Luther by any means but I have always felt happy to adjust truss rods and bridges on Fenders. I have always been able to get the set up want with minimal fuss.
Bass wise for me I have always been a fan of pbasses for the sound, but loved the Jazz bass necks. As soon as I plugged in and tilted the blend knob towards the neck pick up I was as close to pbass as I have ever been on a jazz bass. So that is another plus.
