Not as good as what it replaced
We had a similar Andrew James grinder/chopper which sadly died after a few years. It appears to be no longer available. The cups on this Wahl James Martin one looked identical, so we bought this, hoping it was the essentially the same except for the cosmetics. The cups are identical, except for the precise gear form that couples the blades to the motor, so they're not interchangeable with the old ones. Two problems. 1) It doesn't chop anywhere near as well. It needs a wetter fill, and many times as long, to get the same level of fineness that we'd come to expect from its predecessor. The first curry we made with it had large lumps of ginger left whole. Maybe the blades aren't as sharp? Maybe the motor is slower? Maybe there's something very subtle going on in the placing and angle of the blades that results in dead areas of the fill when chopping? Who knows? But it's barely adequate, and something of a disappointment. 2) The silicone sealing band in the lid cannot be removed for cleaning. While its predecessor was a bit fiddly to refit the band after cleaning (I could do it, my wife couldn't), it could be done, and both band and lid cleaned thoroughly. The best that can be done now is to shoot a jet of water at it and hope it dislodges any food particles, it's too narrow a gap to use a brush to try to access the seal surface. We only chop vegetable matter in there, so let's hope we don't get ill.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
