Thoroughly surprised
Reading all the ratings and reviews, I was a bit skeptical about the performance and battery life until I tried out the Riva X Turbo myself. Upon opening and installing the associated app, that app didn't respond right away.....what a great way to start, right? Well, I figured I would continue and persevere (boy, was I glad that I did).
Setting: Now I know all the audiophiles would are writhing in pain and anguish, but I connected my phone to the RIva unit via Bluetooth (as this unit is going to be used on-the-go camping and in a workshop). I placed the unit on a quasi'-hollow coffee table and set the volume levels to half on the unit and on my phone (turbo and surround sound on). The room that it was testing in measures about 10x15.
Sound: After playing for 2-3 hours, the highs and mids come through crisp and clear. Bass needs to be adjusted a little with an equalizer, but without tweaking the unit shakes the entire table. The turbo function does not distort the sound. The surround sound function was negligible in that room setting, but that may be due to unit placement (not in a corner or near walls.
Overall, I was thoroughly surprised with the performance and most of the reviews were on point. I haven't had the opportunity to completely check how long the battery lasts but after 6 hours of 3/4 volume and turbo on, I was at 70-75% battery left. If you are looking for a decently heavy but portable unit (about the weight and size of a brick), then no further because the Riva Turbo X should do the trick.
Extra: Splash proofness was not tested but the I/O port protector is located on the bottom. If I test this functionality, I will update this post.
Happy Listening!
