Great dvd player at a great price!
This a great little,( and I also mean small!!! ) DVD player, which works especially well if you have a Sony T.V. as well!.You can turn your Sony T.V. on and off, and turn the volume up or down as well, with the neat little remote that comes with the DVD. The only small niggle is that there is an annoying hum when the DVD is playing, but it's not so bad that you can't ignore it, so it doesn't matter that much, to me anyway!. All I wanted was A DVD player that I could use JUST for watching dvd's , and this is just what I got!. It comes with a 12 month warranty, so it is covered. And it starts up as soon as you turn it on, without any other fiddling about, trying to find the right channel!!!. This is the second Sony DVP-SR170 I have purchased, I was so impressed with the first one I decided to buy another for my son as a Christmas present. Best one one the market., couple of things could be made better.
I have been using this player for a long time, as I make my own copies of DVD.S, this function requires start leads, hence why I purchased two further ones, not used as yet, using existing. I found Scart version hard to get hold of. Alas TV.s are no longer fitted with Scart, My 2nd tv is HDMI, I do have sony player that is HDMI.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Sony DVPSR170B DVD Player - it's small.
Plug in your power and scart lead and it simply works. I find it small and this means that a push on the disc drawer sends the player sliding. I've had to put a book on top to solve the problem. However, read wise the machine has a mother-in-law's habit of saying "dirty disc" now and then. Once happy with your disc it plays them well. I like the resume function, not mentioned in the specification. We no longer have to run through a programme to find where we were. The very narrow and low profile buttons are not obvious and the fact that pushing a button starts a delay, that feels like using a Post Office, things do happen in time. Being a simple DVD playing oldie that is the sum of my needs and they have been met.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Good player, poor instructions
The instructions on how to get this DVD going are totally inadequate. I appreciate that it is sold to people all over the world speaking many languages but other manufacturers include more detailed instructions in a host of different languages. A few more pages of print is all that is required. Also, the diagrams displaying the sequence of actions to take to get the DVD to play a DVD do not distinguish clearly between the remote controller for the DVD or for the TV.
