Compact and quiet. This item can function as wi-fi hub, extender or bridge. If you already have a router you can turn off the inbuilt router and use it as a networked drive (NAS). The 5th generation (tall firm factor) also allows remote access. It also acts as an ethernet hub giving you extra ports (daisy chain). Useful backup but wireless no faster
The backup function works really easily compared to my old setup (external hard drive connected wirelessly through mac mini). Looking forward to using a connected hard drive as a home cloud system. The wifi is no faster than my stock router and its range is no better (my old router is a sky box got in 2015); so on that front I would say this is no use unless it is being used elsewhere in the house as a wifi repeater.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

After replacing my original Time Capsule I have tried several alternatives - none of them come near this Time Capsule for speed, quietness and reliability.
