Love this Camera!!
I decided to upgrade from a Nikon d 7100 to the Nikon d800. And wow full frame is so much better. It does high speed sync. I like when the focal length is what it's supposed to be compared to my d7100. The d800 can you take such amazing pictures in low-light and you can go up to 6000 ISO and it will still not be grainy. This alone makes me fall in love with this camera. I bought this used for 560 bucks and I couldn't be more happier. It don't have a touch screen or a tilting screen. But I don't need that for what I'm doing. It's a heavy duty camera that's water seal and I love the 36 megapixels. it's insane on how much detail you can get out of this camera with the right lens. I pair this camera with the Nikon 85 mm 1.8 g and I tokina 100 mm f 2.8 macro and wow!!!!!!! Amazing! Just melted the background and the images were crystal clear. You have to buy some food glass to get the most out of it. I had the money to go buy a new a7iii or a Canon 5dsr but I wanted to give the d800 a chance and I will keep this camera til it dies. The image qualities can compete with any of the 2019 cameras coming out. Just because this is older don't count it out. I may buy the new Nikon z6 or z7 but I will keep this because I know I can always count on it. I kept the d7100 in case this has a problem and use it as a second camera for weddings but I normally only use the d800. Get one try it out I promise you will love it. You don't need all the bells and whistles to get amazing photos.

Great Nikon build and image quality, but the user interface is not for me for general photography.
I grew up using Nikon film cameras. In fact, I did not finally switch to digital until 2014, and first to Fujifilm, because Fuji was the first to make a digital camera with the controls, look and feel of a classic 35mm camera. I only switched back to Nikon when the Df became affordable used. I absolutely love the Df. I got the D800E specifically for film scanning, because of the high resolution and no anti-aliasing filter. And a LOT cheaper than a D850. I knew I would not prefer the D800E controls, but it is worse than I thought. I cannot even set the aperture on my D type lenses - have to use one of the camera's wheels. If all you have known is this type of DSLR, you would probably be OK with it. For me it's annoying to use. The Nikon D800 is an incredible camera! It features the versatility of a professional photographers camera and delivers absolutely stunning images. The addition of a battery grip, essentially doubling the power capacity, is recommended for shooting RAW images. With the ability to shoot in fully automatic, shutter and aperture priority, and full manual, there is no limit to the techniques that you can use to capture just about any image in any situation. The variable focus modes and wide ASA setting range opens up the opportunity to shoot anything from sporting events to wildlife to portraits. This is a powerful piece of equipment. But, if you are an inexperienced photographer, you might take a while to learn the seemingly limitless settings on this camera. It appears the D800 was designed for the seasoned pro. The extensive manual for this camera will take a while to sift through. There are several useful guides available to help you navigate this intricate machine. The effort is completely worth it! Overall, this is an amazing camera. As it is now a few years old, you can get a good price on a slightly used one. Still a great camera.
The D800E is still a great professional-grade camera. It creates clear and crisp images with its 36 megapixel sensor, suitable for cropping and editing in GIMP or your favorite image management software. It has a large and bright LCD screen for image review. It also works with all my Nikon lenses from my F3, F4, and F6 film cameras. The one I purchased has a very low shutter count and looks new. Beautiful
I owned the original D800 back in the day and always had regret for selling it. I had a mirrorless nikon, but was never really satisfied with 24 megapixels. I took plunge and bought the D800E and have not regretted it, especially for the price. After a few shots with the camera, I had forgotten how wonderful these cameras were to hold and use after nine going on ten years. I would also mention the excellent sensor. For a camera pushing ten years. I decided to check out DxO Mark for current sensor rankings, and the D800E still beats out most mirrorless sensors, including the Canon R5/6, as well as Nikon's own Z6 II. Then there is the unique, organic, image quality, Nikon high end dslr's have. After using mirrorless then moving back to a dslr for stills, I could not help but notice the look the D800E produces, compared to mirrorless. Don't get me wrong, mirrorless is the future, for sure, but right now, the D800E image quality, just looks better in regard to an obvious, clinical, digital look the high end mirrorless produce...still excellent image quality, but definitely less organic than the D800E. Nikon D800, Wow!
What a camera! I have had several brands of cameras over the years. A few years ago I switched to Nikon on the advice of a friend and after trying his out. I have enjoyed my Nikons for their true color and resolution but have had only DX or cropped sensor cameras. This camera the, D800 with an FX sensor blew me away. After paying less on Ebay than one third the original price I didn't have high hopes but after trying it out I got rid of all my other cameras and got another Nikon the D810 which is very similar to the D800. The resolution is hard to believe. One drawback is that you will want better lenses to take advantage of the wonderful sensor. The ability to crop so deep is indescribable. The clarity and color depth are incredible. This camera has about 14 stops of dynamic range, color data in shadows is easily recoverable. You have to really be careless to blow out highlights. My day to day camera is the D500. I wanted to see if going full frame would offer better image quality and the D800 has delivered! This is the second D800E that I have owned, I love this camera. I've had it in sub-zero and in the scorching heat of Death Valley. Images are sharp as a tack.
