Canon VIXIA HF R700 Camcorder HD camcorder with 57x Optical Zoom (Black)-
This camera was a disappointment when it arrived, no way could it work for my needs, it was so small, light, I figured it would take inferior pictures. I was walking a farm while someone talked 70 year old memories of being a farm hand on the property. But, it was to late to get something else so I used. OMG ... I got the most amazing footage from this camera. Crystal clear, VERY stable video as I walked rutted fields, He could be heard talking when he was ahead of me, next to me and behind me. Walked into a dark machine shed and when viewing the video later, I was able to identify everything inside the building yet when I was actually taking that shot, I could not see a thing, the building was almost black! I think this company needs a lesson in public relations!
The camera works great, but in the description it was stated that it contained 32 GB of internal memory. Upon inspection I found the SD or memory card was missing. I ask the supplier to send me a 32 GB card . They replied that I should return the camera, but there would be a restocking charge of 20% plus I had to pay for shipping. I purchased a 32GB card on Amazon for $18.00 and solved the problem. As returning the camera would have cost around $35.00, it was the best way to handle a bad situation. Best Value for the Buck in a Mini-Video CamCorder Machine! Excellent Quality HD Images!
First CamCorder purchase in more than 30-years! To say that things have change would be a huge understatement. Back in the 1980s, the consumer grade home CamCorder used full size VHS tapes that were housed in a separate unit carried on a strap over one shoulder. The hefty camera itself needed a steadying bracket for support upon the other shoulder. A long coil cord connected both apparatus. The batteries were big, expensive and weak with short operating times. Every CamCorder outing seemed like a fast breaking TV news event. Trying to blend into the scene and not be the center of attention so to shoot candid videos was next to impossible. The high-end picture quality was as if shot though the bottom of glass Mason jar. That impressive 1984 era $1,600 Panasonic CamCorder was used twice and then tossed into the same closet with old polyester Disco suits and matching neoprene shoes. This 2016 Canon R700 CamCorder is so small and unobtrusive that it can actually fit into a shirt pocket. The camera can be set on automatic and/or used with other "custom" settings. Even the on-board sound microphone system has optional selections for voice, music or natural outdoor oriented videos. Unlike most oher CamCorders in this low price range, the R700 series provides a output jack for external microphone. The "Macro" feature is a bonus as it allows for very close up work without effort as the CamCorder focuses in automatically. As an experiment, some Macro shots were made of vintage coins. The razor sharp high-definition video image of a mint condition 1938 Mercury Dime beautifully filled a 55-inch HD screen. Like every other product, there are critiques. First off, the clunky block shaped battery clumsily hanging off the back of the CamCorder is a nuisance. The trigger button is cramped in right next to the battery and can only be operated with the thumb. It's an oddly awkward design for such an otherwise well thought-out product. The other thing is the "WIDE" aspect of the focus range of this camera seems closer to a "NORMAL" at best. To use this CamCorder for doing a video presentation and "YouTube" style vlogging, this CamCorder needs to be set up several feet away from the subject. The problem then arises with the on-board microphone sound quality. Too far away and the voice sound drops off dramatically to inaudible To remedy the situation, a "Vivitar" brand "High Definition 0.43 x 52mm Wide Angle" auxiliary lens was purchased on eBay. For under $20 delivered, a good quality unit was instantly mounted onto the 52mm lens thread. This added lens is very sharp and allows for the use of 62mm filters. The wide-angle view of this camera was enhanced and is now adequate for its intended use. For field use, an old lightweight 35mm camera flash handle was located. The tripod screw attached bracket offers added protection for the camera while providing a flash mount shoe for use with a small shotgun type microphone. Also, the right side hand strap with grip handle on the left helps much to steady and secure the CamCorder. This entire small rig is quite lightweight and convenient to carry. The camera is very versatile and can be configured for various uses. All in all, the Canon R700 is an excellent value. Retail for this camera is $300 give or take. Street price (eBay) is presently around $250 shipped though now and then, a larger online store will offer them for less. The one purchased here on eBay was new in the box for $209 with FREE shipping. Yes . . . there are deals to be had but one must be quick like a bunny to snag them. Small, light weight, and gets the job done
Nice and very compact video camera with a lot of advanced features at this price point. Don't know much about these cameras but the battery life seems to be exceptional and the sound quality is surprisingly good for on-board microphones. Navigation on the touch screen is reasonable intuitive once you have a few of the basic functions figured out. About the only fault I find in the camera is that the body is so compact that adult male size large hands may have some challenges, as I do, utilizing the zoom toggle. It is very small and located so that you do have to kind of tuck your finger to reach it. I suspect this is the case with all these compact video cameras but that is a tad annoying. I will probably see if I can figure out some way to put a larger contact area onto that button. Amazing Little Camera
Just sold my Sony VX2100 I have been using for 10 years. Great camera, but it can't standup to the quality picture this little camcorder puts out. Gorgeous color, sharp and overall a pretty HD pix. I can't ask for much more in this small package and it's 1/4 the size of the Sony. I do miss not having a peak a boo viewfinder though. Good camera
I bought this camera to have as a second camera.for.filming deer hunting does.a.great job at low light conditions like at first light and last light of the day, audio is great , lightweight easy to use , would ha e gave it 5 stars just does not have wide field of veiw , but it gets the job done .
