SynopsisNominated as one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read . New York Times bestselling author Robert McCammon's prescient and "shocking" (John Saul) vision of a post-apocalyptic US comes to life in his classic epic of terror and renewal. In a wasteland born of rage and fear, populated by monstrous creatures and marauding armies, Earth's last survivors have been drawn into a final battle between good and evil that will decide the fate of humanity. There's Sister, who discovers a strange and transformative glass artifact in the destroyed Manhattan streets...Joshua Hutchins, the pro wrestler who takes refuge from the nuclear fallout at a Nebraska gas station...and Swan, a young girl possessing special powers, who travels alongside Josh to a Missouri town where healing and recovery can begin with her gifts. But the ancient force behind earth's devastation is scouring the walking wounded for recruits for its relentless army...beginning with Swan herself.

  • Deep into another time

This book pulls you into another life and another time and you will not want to leave. Almost 1,000 pages and I have read it 4 times over the years, and want more. My favorite book. The characters become real. At times your are horrified and other times joyful. How would I survive a nuclear holocaust? Visit these characters, pure and evil, see which side you would be on. Never a dull moment. You will not want to put this book down.

  • Swan's Song brings out the best and worst in humans. Good vs Evil at it's best

Read this in the early 90's. Loaned it out and it was never returned. Amazing book! Highly recommend.. Was expecting a paperback and received a hard copy. This was starting in Kansas, a few miles from where I live. Felt so real as I read it. Gave me chills! This book is a must read for anyone who loves a good vs bad story. As it is about 900 pages long, my sister said she would take at least a month to read it. She finished it in 3 days. Can't put it down!

  • Best book ever!!!

I've read quite a few post apocalyptic books including The Stand by Stephen King, which was great; however, this is the best post apocalyptic book ever! It's an excellent story and very well written. Robert McCammon is really in a class all his own for sure. I can't recommend this book highly enough! It gets a 5/5 star rating from me.

  • An excellent read!

This book is perfect for readers who may get bored with other first-person narratives: the story is told from the perspective of multiple characters. It's fun to figure out how the characters' stories will entwine. The post-apocalyptic setting lends the perfect amount of suspense. Definitely not an over-night read (unless you're determined).

  • DO NOT BUY FROM grandeagleretail

Do not purchase from grandeagleretail. They are misprints (which explains how they have multiple new copies of this book). The last page is 888, which is nowhere near the end of the book. It has 956 pages. The story abruptly ends, then there are a couple of "ad" pages, and then chapter one starts again.

  • Great book...Robert McCammon's best IMHO!

Excellent book to read and reread...an "end of the world as we know it" novel that has a very satisfying ending.

  • Triumph in a troubled war worn world.

Well written story of the end of days as the US has been hit by nuclear warheads. Written in the 80s would be an excellent movie.

  • A great novel

I’ve always liked McCammon’s writing, but my wife LOVES this book. I’m buying this for her for Christmas to replace her torn to shreds ancient copy from the 1980s.
