  • One of the Most Powerful and Versatile Synth Workstations Available

First, the problem areas: Korg's driver support for Windows 10 is awful. Unlike Yamaha synth drivers, it was not a plug and play experience. A registry edit was necessary to get the DAW to see the Kronos device. Tech support had to send an unpublished link for a working driver. Once done, it works with a PC editor just fine. The other gotcha, if you're used to working with rack synths, is that Kronos has to be in Combi mode in order to listen on 16 MIDI channels, or you'll hear only the global channel, or nothing at all. Now onto the good stuff: The most realistic, living, breathing piano sounds I've ever heard from a synth, complete with sympathetic resonance, damper resonance, mechanical sounds of the hammers and damper pedal operation, which create a convincing sense of hearing a physical grand piano. Pressing down the damper pedal and playing a chord gives an immediate sense that you're playing an acoustic, not a MIDI instrument. And all of these attributes are adjustable. Percussion, basses, brass instruments are numerous and excellent sounding. Some of the reeds are a little weaker, but still usable. The Tone Wheel Organ sounds are amazing and very customizable. Kronos has a steeper learning curve due to the fact that there are nine synth engines and each has layers of deep menus, but the interface makes it as efficient as possible. This is a synth for techies who want total control of their sounds. Some Nitpicky Items: The lights on the buttons are not diffused, and they cause glare, making it hard to see the printed nomenclature above them. The rotary dial feels cheap and not smooth. Poor Windows 10 driver support that requires hacking the registry. The 8 knob controllers are not continuous, so if you have one set to a value that differs from the program and you change it, you'll hear a jump in the value of the filter or other effect. For the most part, the strong synth engine and high quality sounds far outweigh any disadvantages.

  • Become a believer

I watched a video interview of Jordan Ruddess who spoke about adjusting the voices of a keyboard to have it suit your tastes. The Kronos is very good as it comes and is very "tweakable". Any harsh criticism of the Kronos voices is from someone who didnt do that because you can get pretty much whatever sounds you want from it. It is a little heavy, and it doesnt have a transpose button for fast changes, and that would be my only complaint. Played a Roland for 20 years, still have it, still sounds great, but the Kronos is 20 years newer, and sounds it. The Roland that sounds this good is close to $7K. I really like this Kronos and highly recommend it for serious musicians. The weighted hammer keybed is great on this model. Love playing it. Thats important, if its not fun to play, you wont, and then it would be a waste. No waste here, it is fun to play, you will look forward to playing it, and you will love the feel and sound of it. • A Wonderful Variety of Sound Combinations and Programs easy to navigate

I love the quality of the preset combinations and Programs. This workstation is another level up from the Korg M3. I'm a professional recording artist and compose a variety of musical genres, so this keyboard is just perfect for me. So happy to find it.

  • Korg needs to continue this model!!!

The Kronos is a great instrument. I've had mine for only a few days. And the sounds inspire me to come up with more ideas. The only drawback is that my Kronos weighs close to 60 pounds. But that's a simple fix for me. I'm going to purchase a rolling case, and use a dolly to roll it around for concerts etc.
