Fresh and Exciting Recordings
Though a big fan of Baroque music, I had only one Il Giardino Armonico recording prior to this. I love this, it has that exhilarating vibrant freshness that is too often lacking. All of the 11 discs are good and all have excellent sound quality. There are times when the period instruments sound agitated with a firm, meaty, and full sound but they don't sound over bright or harsh as is sometimes the case. The performances also show quite subtle phrasing as well as joyous vital moments. The instrumental sound stage is well preserved by the recording engineers and we don't get to hear the constant clatter of key-work either, which is nice. I would recommend these to anyone who wants something new and fresh from their Baroque music.
